About the Cayman Islands Blood Bank
The demand for blood is constant, and ensuring a safe, reliable supply in the Cayman Islands is a shared responsibility. At the Cayman Islands Blood Bank, the national blood bank of the Cayman Islands, we’re committed to building a culture of donation through education, empowerment, and community engagement.
We believe that knowledge leads to action. That’s why we work to inform and inspire our community about the importance of blood donation, and how simple, safe, and impactful it truly is.
Our vision is a self-sustaining Cayman Islands where no one’s life depends on imported blood. With your help, we can achieve this goal, one donation at a time.
You have the power to save a life. Donate it.
Our Vision
To inspire a culture of voluntary blood donation by continually engaging, motivating, and educating both current and future donors. Our mission extends beyond saving lives, we aim to position the Cayman Islands as a regional leader in community health and voluntary blood donation.
Governance & Global Standards
The Cayman Islands Blood Bank operates under the guidance of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB), aligning with international best practices for blood safety, donor care, and sustainable supply.
We are actively working to increase our voluntary donation rate from the current 3.5% to the globally recommended target of 5% of the population. Through strategic outreach, education, and collaboration, we are closing this gap and building a more resilient healthcare system for our islands.
Our commitment is to excellence, transparency, and the highest safety standards, guided by global health authorities and rooted in community care.
Operated by the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority
The Cayman Islands Blood Bank is proudly managed by the laboratory staff of the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA), the primary healthcare provider in the Cayman Islands. These dedicated medical professionals oversee all aspects of blood collection, testing, and storage, ensuring every step meets the highest international standards.
The Blood Bank is integrated within the HSA's Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited pathology laboratory, reflecting our commitment to global best practices in blood safety and patient care. This accreditation assures that the blood supply is safe, reliable, and meets rigorous international benchmarks.
